YOUR CLAIM:

-WHEN YOU ARE CALLED OFF ROAD BOARDS FOR OTHER THAN INTERDIVISIONAL SERVICE,

-AGREEMENT LANGUAGE IS FOR “REASONABLE AMOUNT OF TIME”.

-IT IS RCOMMENDED THAT REQUEST FOR MEAL / DISPATCHER OR MANAGER BE INFORMED OF DESIRE FOR MEAL PERIOD DURING SHIFT BE MADE AT BEGINNING OF SHIFT.

 

REQUIRED DOCUMENTATION:

-A COMPLETE COPY OF YOUR FEDERAL TIE-UP.

-MANAGER / DISPATCHER, CORRIDOR NAME AND TIME DENIED LUNCH.

-A COPY OF YOUR DENIED NON-SERVICE CLAIM.

 

EXAMPLE:

CLAIM 130 MILE BASIC DAY FOR NOT BEING ALLOWED TO EAT FOR ENTIRE TOUR OF DUTY.  WAS CALLED ON DUTY FOR (JOB) AT (DATE AND TIME).  AT (DATE AND TIME) REQUESTED MEAL PERIOD.  AT (DATE AND TIME) WAS ORDERED PER (DISPATCHER, CORRIDOR, YARD MASTER, OR MANAGERS NAME), THAT I WAS NOT TO TAKE A MEAL PERIOD FOR ENTIRE SHIFT.  CLAIM 130 MILE BASIC DAY FOR NOT BEING ALLOWED MEAL PERIOD IN VIOLATION OF RULE 22.

In 2014 the first SMART General Convention was held in Las Vegas, NV, bringing to fruition a merger of the SMWIA (Sheet Metal Workers International Association) and the UTU (United Transportation Union). As was stated by General President Joe Nigro at the close of the Conventin:

BLET – Western Region General Committee of Adjustment

The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen (BLET) is a Division of the Rail Conference of the International Brotherhood of Teamsters (IBT). The BLET is the senior national labor organization in the United States and also North America’s oldest rail labor union. The BLET is marking its 150th anniversary in 2013 and was founded in Marshall, Mich. on May 8, 1863, as the Brotherhood of the Footboard; a year later, its name was changed to The Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers.
